On November 11,
1998, Reina~ was rescued from Cuero, Texas after the October
big floods (Thank you to Karen Brooks). When I rescued Reina~, her name was "Flood Dog
#14". Reina~ is a red Doberman Pinscher and was found to be
approximately 4 to 5 years of age at the time of rescue. She
has natural ears and a docked tail. Reina~ was heartworm
positive, and had every type of intestinal worm known to man.
Reina~ weighed approximately 46 lbs at the time of rescue and
should have weighed at least 60 lbs. She was nothing more than
skin and bones. You could literally see every bone in her
body. It was obvious that she had been bred several times
during her short 4 or 5 years of life. Reina~ was treated for
heartworms and then spayed several months later.
During the
transitional period, I had to break up several major dog
fights between Reina~ and Silk. It was my observation that
Reina~ was so accustom to fighting for anything, including
food. Honestly, I thought I would never be able to allow Silk
and Reina~ to be in the same room alone. It was definitely a
hardship on the household. Reina~ had obviously been abused
because when I performed the most simplest of task, she would
coward down as if I were going to hit her. If I lifted my
coffee cup in a "normal" motion, she would act as though I
were going to throw the cup at her. Reina~ bares a scar on the
top of her neck that is approximately 4 to 5 inches in length
and appears to have been tied out (collar type scar). On her
first visit to the Vet, she had no front teeth. All her front
teeth (top and bottom) were worn down to the gums. Her natural
ears were tagged as the farm pigs, cows, etc. are tagged (two
notches out of the top of her ears).
Through the years,
Reina~ and the other fur-kids have adjusted well with one
another. Reina~ had finally learned that she would be taken
care of and there was no need to fight. Reina~ now weighs
about 61 lbs and is in good health. She loves being able to
sleep on Silk's king size bed.
She loves playing
in her own back yard. Reina~ does suffer with separation
anxiety and Thunderstorm anxieties.
Reina~ was
registered and awarded an ILP number through AKC. Her
registered ILP name is "Cuero's Queen 'O My Heart". Reina~
means Queen in Spanish. Reina's~ estimated age to date is 10
years young.
